Three New Members Join Board of Electricity Innovation Institute

Palo Alto, Calif. - May 26, 2004 - Robert Fri, Karen Knutson, and Erle Nye have joined the Board of Directors of the Electricity Innovation Institute (E2I), a non-profit, research and development organization affiliated with the Electric Power Research Institute (EPRI).

"We're pleased to have the depth and diversity of experience that Fri, Knutson, and Nye offer the Board. They've personally served in government and the electric utility industry at the highest levels and their backgrounds will be invaluable guiding us as we bring the sectors together in public-private partnerships," said TJ Glauthier, president and CEO of E2I.

A Resources for the Future visiting scholar, Fri has been involved with energy and environmental issues for more than 30 years. He served during the 1970s as acting administrator for the Environmental Protection Agency and later as acting administrator for the Energy Research and Development Administration. More recently, he was president and director of the non-profit Resources for the Future and director of the Smithsonian's National Museum of Natural History. He is a member of American Electric Power's Board of Directors.

Knutson is vice president of government relations for ML Strategies. Prior to joining the firm, she worked at the White House as deputy assistant to the Vice President for domestic policy providing advice on energy, environment and natural resource issues. In 2001, Knutson helped draft the President's National Energy Policy in her role as deputy director of the National Energy Policy Development Group.

Chairman and CEO of TXU Corporation and TXU Subsidiaries, Nye is a recognized industry authority by both state and national energy industry groups. He is chairman of the President's National Infrastructure Advisory Council. Nye is a past chairman of the Board for EPRI, the Edison Electric Institute, the Electric Reliability Council of Texas, and the Nuclear Energy Institute.

Susan Tierney, managing principal of The Analysis Group, was elected to another term as chairperson. Andrew Lundquist, president of The Lundquist Group, was elected to serve as vice chair.

The three new members, who will serve until May 2007, fill the rotating positions previously held by Linda Stuntz, Richard Cowart, and Richard Grigg.

"The Institute will miss these outgoing Board members who provided outstanding leadership and contributed enormously to the creation of E2I three years ago. We wish all of these exceptional individuals the best in their future endeavors," Glauthier added.

Continuing their terms on the Board are: Ralph Cavanagh, senior attorney and co-director of the Natural Resources Defense Council's energy program; Michael Dworkin, chairman of the Vermont Public Service Board; Vic Fazio, former U.S. Congressman; Slade Gorton, former U.S. Senator; and Kurt Yeager, president and CEO of EPRI.
