About Us

The Intelligrid Consortium was created by EPRI to help the industry pave the way to the Intelligrid vision of the power grid of the future. Such an evolution requires a resistance to the lure of easier short-term solutions made with a "silo" mentality - one without regard to the needs of other parts of the grid. It requires a single-minded doggedness towards open standards, coordination of R&D, collaboration among all stakeholders and a leadership role in the industry standards boards and regulatory bodies. The process is the key to our success. Success requires adoption by the industry. Adoption requires buy-in by industry leaders. Buy-in requires active participation by leaders at each step along the way. EPRI's Consortium is defined by that process. The current funding distribution of the IntelliGridSM program is shown below. Through monetary contributions and "in-kind" contributions, EPRI is assuring an appropriate level of participation from every stakeholder.

The IntelliGridSM program is in line with EPRI's mission to lead public-private research on key issues facing the power industry. This is achieved through cross boundaries coordination to enable a real deregulated market and implement decisions that will have a societal impact.
